Harp for Christenings

Harp Music for Christenings and Naming Ceremonies

A christening is intimate. It is about family, promise and quiet significance.

The music should reflect that.

A harp does this effortlessly. It fills the space without overwhelming it. It softens nerves. It holds the room.

Why a harp works beautifully for a christening

• Gentle, reassuring sound. Ideal for babies and young children.

• Elegant but never intrusive. Perfect during the ceremony itself.

• Flexible repertoire. Traditional hymns, classical pieces, film themes or something personal to your family.

• Seamless transitions. Music as guests arrive, during ceremony and as you leave.

When the harp can be played

Before the ceremony

As guests arrive and take their seats. Calm. Reflective. Welcoming.

During the ceremony

Entrance music. Gentle underscoring during candle lighting or blessings. Music while documents are signed.

Exiting the ceremony

Joyful, uplifting music as family and friends leave the ceremony.

If your ceremony is in a church, I liaise directly with the vicar or organist to ensure everything runs smoothly. If it is a naming ceremony or home celebration, I can advise on timings and placement so the harp enhances rather than dominates.

CEREMONY

  • Pre-service music. Up to 30 minutes of live harp music as your guests arrive.
  • Music for the baby’s entrance. A chosen piece to mark the beginning of the ceremony.
  • Exiting music. A joyful, uplifting piece as you leave as a family.
  • Electro-acoustic amplification. Discreet amplification where needed to ensure the harp carries beautifully in larger or more open spaces.

Choosing Your Music

You may already have favourites. If not, I provide guidance and a curated list suited to christenings.

Popular choices often include:

• Traditional hymns arranged for harp
• Bach, Handel or gentle classical works
• Film themes such as A Thousand Years or A Whole New World
• Soft contemporary pieces with sentimental value

Practical details

The harp requires a small footprint and can be positioned at the front of the church, beside the font, or discreetly to one side. I arrive early to set up and coordinate with the venue so you do not need to think about it on the day.

Everything is handled professionally and quietly.
